Don William Keller, known fondly as DJ, 31,of Greenwood, husband of Alison Charles Keller, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026. His untimely death in the line of duty has left an indelible mark on the community he served unwaveringly and on all who had the honor of knowing him.
DJ’s journey was shaped by dedication and service from an early age. He was a graduate of Ware Shoals High School and furthered his commitment to law enforcement by graduating from the South Carolina Police Academy in 2023. That same year, he began his career with the Greenwood City Police Department, where he quickly distinguished himself through his commitment and skill. In 2025, DJ became a K9 officer, partnering with his loyal K9 companion, Vice, a team that was both respected and admired within the department and community.
DJ’s service extended beyond the badge. He was a veteran of the United States Army, attaining the rank of E6 during his four years of active duty from 2016 to 2020. Continuing his dedication to the safety and pride of his state, he remained an active member of the South Carolina National Guard. His military and law enforcement careers were a testament to his unwavering dedication to protecting and serving his country and community.
Outside of his professional life, DJ was an avid outdoorsman who cherished time spent hunting, fishing, and shooting—activities that brought him peace and joy. These passions reflected his deep connection with nature and a quiet strength that defined his character.
DJ leaves behind a loving family who were his greatest treasures. He is survived by his devoted wife, Alison “Ali” Charles Keller, and their beloved daughter, Ella Bloom Keller. His parents, Don Anthron Keller and Jennifer Burkett; seven siblings, including those he was raised with—Emily Keller, Jessica Durant, and Deontae Durant; his Granny, June Smith; his father and mother-in-law, Chad and Sandy Charles; brothers-in-law, Garrett Charles and Kellar Charles; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; a special cousin, Destin Lewis, and his faithful pup, Ammo.
A celebration of life, with military and policeman's honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Finis Horne Arena at Lander University with the Rev. Chad Charles and Rev. Chuck Sprouse officiating.
Honorary escort will be members of the Greenwood City Police Department, the Greenwood County Sheriff's Department, the Greenwood City Fire Department, and the City of Greenwood employees.
The family is at the home of his in-laws, Chad and Sandy Charles and at the home of his sister, Emily Keller.
