Donald "Donnie" Leroy Alexander, 73, of Greenwood, husband of Barbara Patrick Alexander, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his home.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Robert Earl Alexander and Laura Lucille Brown Alexander. Donnie led a life filled with genuine warmth, compassion, and a strong work ethic. He found his passion in welding and metal fabrication and dedicated several decades of his life as a talented Welding and Metal Fabricator at Southern Metal Works. His commitment to his craft was unmatched, and his work was a testament to his dedication and expertise.

Outside of work, Donnie found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He had a particular fondness for watching the Atlanta Braves, cheering them on with unwavering support. He also enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, finding solace and peace in the serenity of nature. A true handyman, Donnie never shied away from a project, always eager to lend a helping hand and utilize his skills in building and creating with his hands.

Donnie's dedication to serving his country was evident through his enlistment in the Marines on October 28, 1968, during the Vietnam War. He bravely served his country, facing the challenges and sacrifices that come with defending freedom. His service as a Marine will always be honored and appreciated. Donnie was a humble and honorable man, guided by strong values and a deep sense of responsibility. His legacy lives on through his family, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

However, above all else, his truest joy in life came from his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara, who provided him with unwavering love and support throughout their journey together. His children and grandchildren held a special place in his heart, cherishing every moment spent together and creating treasured memories that will endure for generations to come.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Barbara, are his children, Tina Alexander of Greenwood, Jason Alexander (Margaret) of Crown Point, IN, and Christopher Shane Alexander (Terry Janney) of Boiling Springs; sister, Linda Howell; brothers, Bobby Alexander and Jerry Alexander (Joann); and grandchildren, Matthew Alexander, Brianna Hitt, Madison Alexander, and Justin Alexander.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Edgewood Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Bailey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Harley Funeral Home.
