Obituary

Donald "Donnie" Keith Coker, Sr., 79, of Greenwood, widower of Cathy Richardson Coker, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born on March 29, 1947, in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Pete and Rosa Ella Gunter Coker.

Donnie worked as an inspector and in housing placement for the Greenwood Housing Authority. He was a man who truly appreciated hard work and had a passion that extended beyond his career. He loved playing golf at The Fort and cherished the simple pleasure of sharing breakfast and conversation every other morning with his buddies, "The Hardee's Boys." He had a passion for coaching youth sports in little league and football, as well as coaching the Ladies Softball League. Above all, Donnie treasured his family and loved them unconditionally.

He was a proud member of Harris Baptist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life.

He is survived by his son, Donald Keith Coker, Jr.; sisters, Lynn Scott (John), Janice Swanson (Sonny), and Miriam Stein; step-sisters Becky Sims (Butch), Pat Whitmire (Tommy), and Brenda Ouzts (Lawrence); grandchildren Caleb Coker, Lauren Coker, and Anna Holland; and a special friend, Beth Banks.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Deana Coker.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Frank Thomas and Rev. Craig Scott officiating.

Pallbearers will be Walter Echols, John Culbertson, Billy Gettier, David Perrin, Danny Mitchell, and Stephen Shenal.

Honorary pallbearers will be "The Hardee’s Boys".

The family will receive friends before the service from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. at Harley Funeral Home and Crematory.

Donald Keith Coker, Sr. will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of hardworking dedication, love for family, and community spirit leaves a lasting impression on the hearts of many. May his memory be a blessing to those who loved him.
