William Donald Perry, 78, of 207 Morgan Avenue, husband of Johanna "Jo" Beauford Perry, died Monday, March 21, 2016 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Abbeville County, he was the son of the late Willie and Bessie Sorrow Perry. He was a US Navy veteran, having served on the USS Grant County, and retired from Greenwood Mills, Service Department, after 38 years. Donnie had a great passion for fishing and was a member of Panola United Methodist Church, where he held several offices and was a member of the Methodist Men's Club and the Kate Holley Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World.
Surviving is his wife of the home; his daughter, Donna Free (Emmett) of Hodges; his son, Donald Perry of Greenwood; his stepson, Phillip "Dee" Garner (Linda) of Greenwood; Dewey Chappell, who was raised in the home for several years, of Pickens; sisters, Betty Davis, Frances Cutter (Bobby) and Jean Fleming (Elmer), all of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Deana Eppley (Jason) and Preston Garner (Carrie), both of Greenwood, Rodney Free (fiancée, Katrina Knight) of Hodges and Dustin Free (Adriana) of Greenwood; great grandchildren, Hanna and Logan Eppley, Zoey and Hampton Garner, Aidan and Olivia Free, Landon Knight, Callie and Austin Free; and his best fishing partner, Bobby McCraw.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Jones.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jonathan Payne officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
