Doris Elizabeth Lomax Blalock, 99, of Ninety Six, widow of Paul Charlie Blalock, died on November 3, 2026.
Born in Farmington, GA, she was a daughter of the late George W. Lomax and Bessie Mize Lomax Gantt. Doris, or Darlin' as Paul always called her, was a cherished mother, an extraordinary cook, and a devoted member of her community.
Doris was best known for her incredible cooking skills, especially her famous charcoaled burgers that brought everyone together for backyard cookouts. She had a passion for sharing meals with loved ones for reunions and taking extra care to provide comfort food for those in need. Holidays were a special time for Doris-she adored Christmas and Easter, filling her home with love and laughter.
Doris was also an avid gardener, spending countless hours tending to her beloved roses, daffodils, irises and her three peach trees. She found joy cutting her grass, relishing the feel of the grass beneath her feet and the generous sun on her face as she took time to relax at the beach. She and Paul enjoyed traveling the country and were able to visit 48 of the 50 states.
A woman of strong faith, Doris was a proud member of Temple Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was active for many years in the Nana Brown Sunday School Class, a former choir member, and involved with the WMU. Her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched through her kindness, love, and unwavering support.
Doris is survived by her children, Douglas P. Blalock (Ann), Andy Blalock (Margie) and Carolyn B. Asbill; sisters, Kathryn L. Jones and Margaret L. Goodson; her grandchildren, Janesca A. Franklin (Gus), Elizabeth Ann A. Davis (Mike), Lt. Col. William Mulkey (Jessica), MSG Paul Drake, Amanda B. McCollough (Sean), Sarah A. Rieger (Cameron), Anson Brinson (Kayla) and Samuel "Storm" Blalock (Maggie); 17 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn B. Mulkey; a grandson, Zane Brinson; son-in-law, Art Asbill; sisters, Marie L. Collins, Virginia L. Fox, Evelyn L. Chastain and Laverne Lomax and brothers, George W. Lomax, Jr., Crawford J. Lomax and an infant brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
