Obituary

Doris Virginia Rinehart Smith, of 127 Lawton Street, Avondale Subdivision, Greenwood, SC passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Hospice House of the Piedmont.

Born in Saluda County, Doris was the daughter of the late Colon Eugene and Estelle Lula Hallman Rinehart. Her family moved to Greenwood County in 1941 where she attended and received her diploma from Greenwood Schools.

During her professional career, Doris was employed by Abney Mills and Greenwood Mills in administration. Furthering her education in South Carolina and National Training Programs for purchasing officials, she began what was perhaps her most rewarding position as Purchasing Officer for Greenwood County Government for seventeen years.
She was an active member of the South Carolina Association of Government Purchasing Officials, a member of the National Association of Governmental Purchasing where she held chairman positions on many committees over the years. Doris received several high achievement awards during her career, retiring at the age of 70.

Doris was a former member of Galloway Memorial Methodist Church until she became an active member of the South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Welcome Center, Women's Ministries and the church choir were all representative of her devotion to her church and to her faith. She shared her faith as part of mission teams to Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica where she began her Clown Ministry working with children. "Pepino the Clown" traveled to nursing homes, participated in children's programs, and wherever a smile and the love of Jesus could be spread. Volunteering with the Greenwood Disabled Veterans and The Hospice store filled many days with pride.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jack Smith; two brothers, Cephus Rinehart and Gerald Rinehart; two sisters, Earlene Rinehart Butler and Annie Rinehart Butler; and a son-in-law, Bill Barrowclough.

Survivors include two daughters Virginia "Genny" Smith Barrowclough of Tega Cay, SC and Nancy Smith Hulsey (Larry) of Greenwood; a son, Hiram Jack Smith (Barbara) of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Heather Riley, Haven Hanley (Tate), Haley Smith, Logan Hood (Hunter), Dustin Smith, Katie Smith and B. J. Barrowclough (Kristen); nine great grandchildren, Tanner, Delta, Peyton, Kerry, Lexi, Sarah, Joshua, Billy (Gerie and Brian), and Zander; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 18 at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Bailey officiating followed by a private burial at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Larry Hulsey, Logan Hood, Tanner Riley, Tate Hanley, Richard Shirley, Dustin Smith, and B.J. Barrowclough.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
