Obituary

Dorothy Elaine Smith Johnson, 76, of Greenwood, wife of William Henry Johnson, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.

Born on August 26, 1949 in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Arthur A. Smith and Annie Mae Anderson Smith. Dorothy was a woman defined by her faith, her dedication, and the immense love she shared with those around her. Raised in the Church of God faith, she carried those principles of kindness, devotion, and community with her every day. For 34 years, Dorothy was a dedicated employee of Greenwood Mills, where she worked as a cloth inspector and trainer before her retirement.

Her home was her sanctuary, and she possessed a remarkable green thumb; she loved nothing more than planting flowers and watching her gardens bloom. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking and feeding her family at home, though she never turned down the chance to go out to eat or indulge in her absolute favorite pastime; clothes shopping.

Above all, Dorothy’s heart belonged to her family. She was a fiercely proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every moment spent with them. She shared a beautiful life of 58 years with her husband, Henry, and some of their fondest memories together were made during their special trips to the mountains.

She is survived by her husband, Henry, children, Shannon Wahl (Rob) and Bryan Johnson (Jenia); sisters, Peggy Ziegler (Tony) and Martha Stewart (Don Williams); grandchildren, Olivia, Marlana, Gage, Corbin, and Ashton; great grandchild, Hollee; and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, June Nabors and two brothers, Jerry Lee Smith and Samuel Arthur "Bubba" Smith.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
