Dorothy C. "Dot" Knight, 95, widow of Dewey Gordon Knight, died Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Hospice House.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Elzie Lee and Mary Etta Burnett Coursey. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant and was a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. An adoring grandmother, Dot cherished every moment spent spoiling her grandkids, showering them with affection and creating cherished memories that will forever live on in their hearts. Dot's love for reading filled her mind with knowledge and provided her with endless adventures within the pages of countless books. Her green thumb brought beauty and life to her surroundings. She spent many evenings cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. Dot's culinary skills were unmatched, and her family and friends were blessed to savor the delicious meals she lovingly prepared.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dot was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry L. Knight and David G. Knight; her sister, Margie Newsome; her brothers, Billy Coursey and James Coursey; and grandchildren, Candy Long and River Knight.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Lothridge and two sons, Michael Wayne Knight and Walter Ray Knight (Gloria); grandchildren, Wendy Hovis, Jared Knight (Amanda), Chelsea Knight (Steven), Katrina Free (Rodney), Hayley Adams (Chris), and Adam Knight (Haley); fifteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will recevie friends following the service.
