Obituary

Edgar "Ed" Cannon, 81, of Cambridge Apartments, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Edgar Cannon, Sr. and Evie Newton Cannon. He graduated from Calhoun Falls High School and attended Greenwood College of Commerce. He served six years in the U. S. Army Reserve as a company clerk. He was active in Boy Scouts as an explorer scout, where he attained the rank of Star Scout and also assisted in the Cub Scouts program as Den Chief. He was also an assistant Scout Master alongside Mr. Herman Powell, a long time Scout Master in Calhoun Falls.

He was owner of Cannon Construction Company until his retirement in 1997. He was a past officer in the Greenwood Jaycees serving as secretary, board of directors and first vice president. He was an ordained deacon at Coronaca Baptist Church where he also served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William T. "Billy" Cannon and three sisters, Beatrice Ingram, Dorothy Gable and Evelyn Decuir.

Surviving are a son, Greg Cannon and a daughter, Mona Tellstrom, both of Greenwood; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Mr. Cannon donated his body to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Garrison officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.
