Edward Samuel Mitchell, Jr., 79, of 230 Candlewick Loop, McCormick, husband of Nancy Card Mitchell, died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Hospice House, Greenwood. Born in Boston, MA, he was a son of the late Edward Samuel Mitchell, Sr. and Gladys Belyea Mitchell. He was a 1962 graduate of the University of Miami (FL), where he received a B.S. degree in both Electrical Engineering and Microelectronics. He retired from Bell Labs following 34 years of employment, where he was a member of the technical staff. Mr. Mitchell was a US Coast Guard veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer and a member of McCormick United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men�s Club. Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Nancy, of the home; his son, Edward Samuel Mitchell, III and his wife, Maura, of Fairplay, MD; his daughter, Liane Venezia and her husband, Justin, of Lexington; two sisters, Sylvia Burke and her husband, Maurice, of Cape Cod, MA and Phebe Abbott and her husband, Earl, of Nashua, NH; and was a loving Papa to his five grandchildren, Artemis Mitchell, Gavin Mitchell, Justina Venezia, Nicholas Venezia and Allison Venezia.
