Edith Ouzts's Obituary

Myrtle Edith Leopard Ouzts, 88, of 205 Lowell Street, Ninety Six, widow of Hebron Clark Ouzts, died Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the home of her son in Lexington, SC.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Homer George and Fara Larue Lowery Leopard. She retired from Greenwood Mills. Mrs. Ouzts was a member of Siloam Baptist Church, where she was taught the Dorcas Sunday School Class and sang in the church choir for many years. She was also a member of the Siloam seniors group fondly known as the Elderberries.

Edith, as she was known to family and friends, was revered in her community for her steadfast faith and devotion to God and family and for her kind and noble spirit. She was a loving wife and mother and an excellent cook. Respected by her children as a stern disciplinarian, she will be remembered by her grandchildren more for her leniency and tolerance for milkshakes, chocolates and cookies. Above all, Edith will be remembered for her abiding love.

Surviving are her daughter, Robin Calhoun (Dave Deen) of Greenwood; two sons, Steve Ouzts (Cindy) of Lexington and Tim Ouzts (Pamela) of North Augusta; a sister, Loretta Spearman (Earl Leon) of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Anna Messinger (John) of Fruita, CO, Erin Durant (Noel) of Gunnison, CO and Carl Ouzts (Bre) of Balsam Grove, NC; and a great grandson, Cooper Calhoun of Ninety Six.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Calhoun; sisters, Ruth Dickerson and Elizabeth Sprouse and her brother, Raymond Leopard.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Howle and the Rev. Jason Webb officiating. Burial will be private.

Honorary escort will be members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class of Siloam Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Family members are at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to Siloam Baptist Church, PO Box 373, Ninety Six, SC 29666.
