Ellen Opal Everly Joyce Shirley, 95, of 407 Abbott Avenue, widow of George Thomas Shirley, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at her home. Born in Pana, IL, she was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Mary Ellen Walker Everly. She worked for Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, then for Belk for five years in sales and was the owner of a specialty shop, Seamstress & Gifts. She was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member, past president and teacher of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. Ellen was a wonderful mother to her children, Jim Joyce and his wife, Maureen, Gene Shirley and Mary Jane Tinsley, all of Greenwood and Faye Shirley Lambert and her husband, Lester, of Simpsonville; two granddaughters, April Pruitt and Christi Poore and two great grandchildren, Kirsten Poore and Kinsley Poore. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was first married to the late Mansil Joyce of Coffeen, IL and was also preceded in death by a stepson, Maurice Joyce and a stepdaughter, Mary Joyce, both of Illinois.
