Ellen Gambrell Wells, 89, of North Charleston and formerly of Crescent Drive, Greenwood, widow of James D. Wells, died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Hospice of Charleston.
Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late Paul K. and Zora Atkin Gambrell. She was retired from Self Memorial Hospital and was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she formerly taught children's Sunday School and was active in The Sunshine Club and the Women's Auxiliary.
Surviving is her daughter, Barbara Elaine Wells of North Charleston; her son, Larry Wells (Dana) of Summerville; her grandson, Skottowe Houston Wells (Jessica) of Summerville and a brother, George Gambrell of Honea Path.
She was preceded in death by three sisters; three brothers and her beloved puppy dog, Rocky.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Dr. Terry Bailey and Mr. Joe Malone officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Perrin, Glenn Perrin, B. J. Penland, Olin Gambrell, Gerald Mullis and Allen Gambrell.
Honorary escort will be members of The Ever Ready Sunday School Class of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The family would like to extend a special word of thanks to Dr. Mark Robirds for the care that he gave to Mrs. Wells for many years.
The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
