Elmer Perrie Talbert, 92, of Greenwood, widower of Gertrude Helena Talbert, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Hospice House.

Born in Oxon Hill, MD, he was a son of the late George Herbert Talbert, Sr. and Sallie Ann Hill Talbert. Elmer was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and retired form C & P Telephone Company. He was the former fire chief for Oxon Hill Volunteer Fire Department Company 21 and was also on the Fire Commission Board. Elmer was a member of Tomoka United Methodist Church in Ormond Beach where he was the former Treasurer, on the Board of Directors and helped to rebuild after the hurricane.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years along with a sister, Ann Talbert Mistretta; and brothers, Lawrence Talbert, Edward Talbert and George Herbert Talbert, Jr.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy Deskins and Nancy Caro (Ed) both of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Michael Mabrey, Jr. of Spartanburg, Jay Mabrey of Palm Beach, FL, Jennifer Gheen (Scott) of Greenwood and Jon Burgess of PA; eight great grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Deloris Rapp officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Scott Gheen, Allen Gheen, Kevin Gheen, Kyle Gheen, Michael Mabrey, Jay Mabrey and Forrest Mabrey.

The family will receive friends before the service from 10-11 am.
