Emmett L. Smith, 85, of 8321 Highway 246 South, Ninety Six, widower of Mary Hancock Smith, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at his home. Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late David and Alice Turner Smith. He was retired from Michelin in Lexington and was a US Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Ninety Six Church of God. Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Lawson, Joan Chastain and her husband, Gene, and Agnes Schultz and her husband, Dwight, all of Ninety Six; two sisters, Ginger Lee King of Toccoa, GA and Robbie Waters of Clinton; a brother, Cleave Smith of Conestee; grandchildren, Mickey Chastain of Cross Anchor, Johnny Chastain (Nicole Miller), Crystal Kamyszek (Steven), and Taylor Schultz, all of Ninety Six; ten great grandchildren and a special friend, Jeanette Voiselle of Ninety Six. He was preceded in death by his son, Emmett Dean Smith.
