Obituary

Erica Leslie Rushton, 34, of 1621 Tillman Territory Road, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at MUSC, Charleston. Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of Pamela Horne Fortner and the late Larry Preston Rushton. Erica was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and was employed by The Burton Center and St. Mark United Methodist Church, Kids World, where she delighted in reading to the children every week. She was a member of the Pink Ladies Club, the Toastmasters Club and ReaLife Ministries. She was an advocate for the Special Disabilities and Needs Awareness Week in Columbia, where she spoke to the legislators concerning needs of the disabled, stating to them God is not pleased with the way you are spending our money! She is survived by her mother and Daddy, Pam and Allen Fortner; her brothers, Jonathan Rushton and Al Fortner and his wife, Angie; her sister, Julie Fortner Lardizabal and her husband, Eric; her niece, Katie Marie Fortner and her nephew, Efren Lardizabal. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Preston and Sara Rushton, Margaret and J. B. Horne, Sophia and Allen P. Fortner. Erica, our lives have been touched by your sweet, angelic spirit. You have truly been a blessing to our family. In the beginning, your accomplishments were small to others, but to us, they were like moving mountains. Your journey in life was not easy, but you touched others in ways no one else could with such pure innocence and without even trying. Your beauty comes from within, the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. This beauty will never disappear and it is worth very much to God. You have opened our eyes to a greater understanding of what life should be loving and accepting others just as they are. If everyone could love the way you love, Erica, the world would be a nicer place to live. Love, Mama
