Ernest Joseph Nunn, 92, of 5709 Ninety Six Highway, widower of Elizabeth "Lib" Spearman Nunn, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Hospice House.
Born in Martinsville, VA, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward and Annie Lynch Nunn. He was a retired contractor and was a US Army veteran of World War II, where he was wounded on the coast of France and received a Purple Heart.
Mr. Nunn served the community for many years as a founding member of the Lower Lake Greenwood Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department. He was well known for the hash that he prepared to be sold at the July 4th fundraiser each year.
Mr. Nunn was a faithful member of Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he had served on the Board of Elders for a number of terms. He contributed to numerous construction projects for the church and kept up the lawn care for many years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Nunn was also preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Adams Nunn; his son, Leonard "Strawberry" Nunn and all of his twelve siblings.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Miles Alan Morgan (Rebecca) of Greenwood and Sadie Stidham (Ronny) of Polk City, FL; and a sister-in-law, Mamie Nunn of Stanley Town, VA.
Services, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Brian Brock officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, VA.
Honorary escort will be members of the Lower Lake Greenwood Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
