Sarah Ernestine Hazel Simmons, 84, of Greenwood, widow of Olin David Simmons, Sr., passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at NHC of Greenwood.
Born on August 19, 1940 in Greenwood, SC she was a daughter of the late Cliffton Hazel and Sara Smith Hazel. A beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Ernestine cherished her family above all else. Each of them carried a piece of her spirit, and her love will continue to be felt in their lives. An avid golfer, she spent countless hours on the green, enjoying the game she loved and building friendships through her passion. Teenie truly embraced life, finding joy in traveling and exploring new places. A member of First Baptist Church, her faith guided her life.
She is survived by two sons, David Simmons (Sheila) of Greenwood and Russell Simmons (Debbie) of Easley; stepdaughter, Debbie Cooper (Tony) of Myrtle Beach; sister, Helen Lewis of Greenwood; brother, Jimmy Hazel (Eilene) of Georgia; and grandchildren, Aaron Cooper, Lee Simmons (Allison), Mitch Simmons ( Crystal), Nicholas Simmons (Rachael), and Mackenzie Tripp (Seth).
In addition to to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Ronnie Simmons and brother-in-law, Vernon Lewis.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Connor Lewis officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends before the service from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
