Eugene Thornton Goode, Sr., 96 of 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, husband of Marilyn Kempka Goode, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Maybeury, WV, he was the only surviving son of the late Claud Zimmerman Goode and Helen McMahon Goode. Eugene received his master's degree from the University of North Carolina and was the former Director of Environmental Health for the state of Virginia. He served his country during WWII, in the U. S. Army with the 34th Red Bull Division, 135th Infantry, Company L as the medic and chief dresser at the aid station. Eugene was of the Christian faith.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 75 years are his children, E. Thornton Goode, Jr., of Mexico, Henry Claude Goode (Beth) of St. Augustine, FL, Catherine Link of Mexico and Robert P. Goode, Sr. (Jihee) of VA; six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at The Silver Leaf Cafe' of Wesley Commons.
