Eula Mae Turner Waites, 89, formerly of East Grumling Road, Hodges, widow of Silas William Waites, died Sunday, May 8, 2016 at NHC Healthcare Center, Greenwood.
Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Gaither and Emma Lee Styron Turner. She was formerly employed with Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Plant, managed the shoe department at Sky City and retired from Pic-n-Pay Shoes, where she was the first woman to serve as a supervisor. Mrs. Waites was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class for more than 50 years.
Surviving is her sister, Thelma DeVore of Chappells; her grandchildren, Vincent Baker (Dana) and Cheryl Phillips (Sam) of Hodges and Devry Bowie (Leeann) of Greenwood, who were all raised in the home, Sharon Powell (Chip) of Hodges, Zachary Powell (Mandy) of Due West, Wesley Powell (Angel) of Hodges, Benji Baker (Jessica) of Callison of Greenwood and Caleb Baker of Hodges; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Waites Baker.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamar Babb officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Zac Powell, Wes Powell, Benji Baker, Devry Bowie, Caleb Baker and Terry DeVore.
Honorary escort will be the men of Providence Baptist Church along with Mark Bussey, Chris Boyd and Randy Waites.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family is at the home of her grandson, Vincent Baker, 1120 E. Grumling Road, Hodges.
