Evelyn Elizabeth Long Goff, 91, of 279 Galilee Road, formerly of 110 Dendy Street, Troy, widow of Hewie Lawton Goff, died Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Tommie O. and Ethel Evelyn Talbert Long. She was a 1945 graduate of Greenwood High School and worked as a telephone operator for the Greenwood Telephone Company during World War II. Mrs. Evelyn was a member of Troy United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher to the children, led the MYF, and was a member of the choir. She enjoyed baking, keeping the neighborhood children, and caring for others.
Surviving are her daughters, Sandra Peeler (Jimmy) of Troy and Sharon Underwood (Bob) of Greenwood; sons, Hewie E. Goff and Edward Randy Goff (Cynthia), both of Greenwood; sister, Permelia L. Cook of Batesburg; grandchildren, Jamie Peeler (Deborah) of Troy, Jodie Peeler of Newberry, Jarred Goff (Abbey) of Maryland, Savannah Grace Goff, Destiney Goff, Matthew Goff (Tish), all of Greenwood, Tyler Goff (Natalie) of Knoxville,TN, Kelsey Goff and Haley Brooke Goff, both of Columbia; and great grandchildren, Emeline and Rachel Peeler, Nicolai, Nolan, Aveona, Gabriel, Harper, and Lawton Goff, and Keagan, Kaleb, and Thatcher Goff.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her home health nurse, Vickie Laughlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and infant twin sister, Ellen Mae Long.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Byars officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
