Evelyn "Ebbie" Brock James, 99, of Greenwood, widow of Green Berry "G.B." James, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Wesley Commons.

Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Reid and Lizzie Mae Brown Brock. Ebbie retired from the City of Prosperity where she was the clerk and treasurer for 25 years and was a member of New Market Baptist Church. An avid traveler, Ebbie always had her bags packed, ready for the next adventure. She enjoyed traveling with her husband during his military service. Her love of adventure led her on over 20 cruises and countless trips to the beach, where she created lasting memories with her family. Her passion for travel was rivaled only by her love for taking care of her family, always ensuring they were surrounded by warmth and support. Ebbie will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit and her unwavering spirit, participating in activities such as playing cards and bowling well into her 90s.

Surviving are her children, Margaret Ann Buffington of Jonesboro, GA, Karen Anderson (Kenny) of Prosperity and Pam Cornforth (Steve) of Demark; grandchildren, Taylor Eubanks (Daniel), Ryan Cornforth (Lauren), Jimmy Buffington, Becky Killgo (Shannon), Susan Newton (Robert), Jordan Sandifer (Denver), Walker Smith (Austin) and Joshua Livingston (Becky); great grandchildren, Seth Killgo, Harley Killgo, Jackson Newton, Amanda Murray, Presley Newton, Zoe Buffington, Evie Buffington, Carolyne Livingston, Macy Livingston, Lacy Livingston, Reed Sandifer, Cooper Sandifer, Harper Lyn Sandifer, Mason Sandifer, Ryerson Cornforth, Sawyer Lyn Smith, Stetson Smith, Eli Eubanks, Dax Eubanks, Jay Eubanks and Winter Murray; a sister Hazel Kidd; a brother, Jimmy Brock; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Cal and Wesley Brock; sisters, Catherine Langley, Gladys McKittrick, Teeny Buchanan and Peggy Haynie; great grandchildren, Fuller Eubanks and Wyatt Newton; and son-in-law, Walter Buffington.

Services will be held 11am on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at New Market Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow 2pm at Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Livingston, Walker Smith, Ryan Cornforth, Daniel Eubanks, Denver Sandifer, Jimmy Buffington, Robert Newton and Shannon Killgo.

The family will receive friends before the service at the church from 10-11 am.
