Obituary

Evalyn �Evie� Thigpen Saxon, 72, of 605 Kitson Street, widow of Bill �Cupcake� Saxon died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Hospice House. Born in Washington, GA, she was a daughter of the late William Roy Thigpen and Cora Lee Rabon Thigpen. Evie was a retired Vice President of South Carolina National Bank/Wachovia Bank and also attended the SC School of Banking. She was a previous active member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, where she completed Leadership Greenwood. She was a past president of the Literacy Council of Greenwood and served on the Board of the Bowers Rogers Children�s Home. Evie was a member of West Side Baptist Church where she formerly taught the Joann Cantrell Sunday School Class. Surviving are her three sons, Brent Saxon of Greenwood, Eric Saxon and wife Kim of Murfreesboro, TN, and Chris Saxon of Wilmington Island, GA; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Saxon of Greenwood; two sisters, Elaine Evans and husband Bridge of Stockbridge, GA and Wanda Edmonds and husband Bobby of Augusta, GA; a brother, Billy Thigpen and wife Jan of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren: Michael Barthelemy and wife Amanda of West Lafayette, IN, Dana Curry and husband William of Aiken, SC, Taylor Saxon, Matthew Saxon, Erin Davis, all of Greenwood, Sarah Saxon of Abbeville and Michael Saxon and wife Angie of Batesburg; two great grandchildren: Adam Barthelemy and Embry Saxon; a niece, Jennifer Roese and husband Jeremy of Evans, GA; and four nephews: David Evans and wife Susan of McDonough, GA, Craig Evans and wife Whitney of Greenville, SC, Scott Thigpen and wife Brandy of Cave Creek, AZ and Bryan Thigpen and wife Erin of Christchurch, New Zealand. Pallbearers will be Michael Saxon, Taylor Saxon, Michael Barthelemy, Will Curry, David Evans and Craig Evans. Honorary escort will be the members of the Joann Cantrell Sunday School Class and all members of the congregation of Westside Baptist Church.
