Frances Gooch Christian, 77, of 226 Jackson Avenue, widow of Fred Christian, died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Oglethorpe County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Flury Helton Gooch. Mrs. Christian retired from Monsanto and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are a daughter Carolyn Rath and her husband Nick of Dallas, TX; a son Grover Christian and his wife Teresa of Greenwood; a sister Effie Callaway of Greenwood; a brother Joe Gooch of Greenwood; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Chuck Gordon, Michael Hallman, Clem McNure, Jeff Dixon, Jacob Johnson and Paul McLaughlin. Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church Building Fund, 550 Bypass 72 NW, Greenwood, SC 29649. The family is at the home.
