Frances Killingsworth Martin, 89, formerly of Orchard Park, Greenwood, widow of Lynwood Talmadge Martin, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at NHC Health Care, Greenwood. Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Myrth Jim and Wilma Dodson Killingsworth. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and retired as a teacher from the Mecklenburg County (NC) School System. She was the recipient of numerous Teacher of the Year awards. Mrs. Martin was a pillar of the community and treasured the time she was able to spend with family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening, especially roses. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, was a member of book clubs, garden clubs and many other community activities. She was very active member of Providence Road Baptist Church in Charlotte, where she taught Sunday school and was very involved in mission work. Surviving are two sisters, Nancy K. Martin and brother-in-law,Joe Martin of Greenwood, SC, and Hazel K. Manus of Rock Hill; nieces, Jean Thies of Fort Mill; nephews, Jimmy Killingsworth of College Station, TX, Monty Martin of Kentucky and Mickey Martin of Virginia; great nieces, Magan Marceleno of Lexington, SC and Anna Thies of Fort Mill and great nephews, Andrew Martin of Greenwood and Paul Schelechow of New York. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Killingsworth.
