James Franklin Murphy, 78, of 4122 Highway 25 North, Hodges, died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Hospice House. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Warren James and Sudie Giles Murphy. He was retired from Monsanto and had served in the US Navy. He was a member of New Market Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities including being active in the Mens Ministry, taught the Willing Hands Sunday School Class and was a member of the Golden Heirs. Surviving are his children, Tracy Murphy and Michele Johnson, both of Greenwood; and his grandchildren, Eric Johnson, Brent Johnson, Trey Johnson, Farrah Murphy and Olivia Capps, all of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty McKinney and his brother, Charles Murphy. Pallbearers will be Eric Johnson, Brent Johnson, Trey Johnson, Louie King, Jack Reid and Mike Gantt. Honorary escort will be members of the Willing Hands Sunday School Class of New Market Baptist Church. The family is at the home of Mike Reeder, 104 Cape Hatteras Court, Harbor Heights, Ninety Six.
