Franklin D. Briggs, 77, of 712 Holloway Avenue, widower of Mary Helen Horne Briggs, died Friday, August 19, 2011 at Wesley Commons Health Care Center. Born in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Holbert and Eula Mae Sparks Briggs. Franklin was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korea Conflict and retired from Greenwood Mills- Mathews Plant. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth �Lib� Buchanan. Surviving are two children, Teresa Swink and her husband Roy of Ninety Six and Franklin Donald Briggs and his fianc� Jackie Byrd of Greenwood; a sister, Louise Hart of Greenwood; a grandson, Brandon McClinton and his wife Melinda; and a great grandson, Bradley McClinton all of Greenwood. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Brock, Wayne Rowe, Ricky Rowe, Randy Miles, Robert Turner, Sammy Hollingsworth, Barry Briggs and Kenny Price. Honorary escort will be Bill Hamby, Morris Dorn, Ricky Miles, Martin Turner, Arnold Cole and the staff of HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
