Fred Carroll Eakin, 76, husband of Mildred Brown Eakin, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Hospice House. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Lucian Carroll and Ruby McCombs Eakin. Fred was a retired Truck Driver having worked for Greenwood Motor Lines and R & L Carriers. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by a sister Frances Harmon. Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty years are two daughters, Sheila �Doug� Gilmer and Freda �Gerald� Sartin, all of Greenwood; a son Justin Eakin and his fianc� Karen Gunter of Greenwood; three sisters, Grace Butler of Ninety Six, Doris Pickens and Marie �Ralph� Wilson, all of Greenwood; two brothers, Edgar �Ed� Eakin and Clifton �Lois� Eakin, all of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Salem Sartin and Stephen Sartin; and his caretaker Rachel Wardlaw of Greenwood. Pallbearers will be Tony Eakin, Billy McCombs, Billy Logan, Cary Bishop, Eddie Brown and Tommy Brown. Memorials may be made to Hospice House, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646. The family is at the home of his daughter Freda Sartin, 1017 Chinquapin Road, Greenwood, SC.
