Fred "Freddie" Joe Young, Sr. 74, of 111 Millionaire Road, Ninety Six husband of Mary Covington Young, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Louise Allison Young and the late George Edward Young Sr. Freddie served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam with the 101st Airborne and was a self-employed welder. He was the owner and operator of Smokey Joe's BBQ and attended East Side Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home and his mother of Greenwood are a son, Joey Young, of Greenwood; a brother, George Edward Young, Jr. of Pelzer; a half-sister, Karen Durr of Greenwood; and two grandchildren, Kristen Young Bailey (James) of Ashville, NC and Julia Lynn "Jill" Young of Greenwood.

Services will be held at 3 pm on Monday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Ramsey and Rev. Chad Charles officiating. Burial will be held in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be George Young, Jr., Mark Allison, James Covington, Eddie Covington, Tony Covington and Russell Waters.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 3 pm.

The family is at the home of his sister-in-law, Virginia Garrison, 207 Millionaire Road, Ninety Six.
