Gary Thomas Upton, 74, of Greenwood, widower of Meredith Teasley Upton, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta.
Born on February 19, 1951 in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Thomas G. Upton and Lois Pannell Upton.
Gary was a man of simple pleasures. He loved racing cars, working on engines, fishing, and camping. Most of the time you could find his loyal dogs accompanying him on his adventures to the porch. He could also be found relaxing with a DIY TV show.
He is survived by his children, Wallace Upton (Anna), Gerald Upton (Tammy), Thomas Upton (Noelle), and Margaret Upton Carmack; brother, Harris Preston Upton, Sr. (Adair); grandchildren, Courtney Fingar (Mike), Nichole Sorrow (Daniel), Aaron Upton, Douglas Parker, Casey Moore (Bennie), Taylor Bridgeman, Gerald Upton, Jr. (Kristen), Sydney Morris, Vincent Marino, Cyrus Upton, Dayzi Simpson, Jazmyn Head, and Azelyn Upton; and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Dianne Upton and Deborah Meece; a granddaughter, Jessica Upton; and beloved pets, Rascal and Houdini.
