George Richey Davis, 85, of Greenwood, husband of Donnie Sue Cason Davis, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at his home.
Born in Greenwood, SC, he was a son of the late Clinton and Carrie Scott Davis.
George worked for many years as a doffer at Matthews Mill, where he eventually retired. He was a passionate fan of NASCAR and never missed a Saturday at the Laurens County Speedway. He had a love for the open road and enjoyed relaxing car rides, often accompanied by his wife, Donnie Sue. Together, they enjoyed spending time outdoors, often camping at the Greenwood Lake campground, and soaking up the beauty of the mountains, especially during visits to Maggie Valley, TN. George was a long-time member of the Greenwood Moose Lodge and enjoyed connecting with friends and his community. He appreciated the simple joys of life and could often be found relaxing in front of the television watching his favorite shows.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, George is survived by son, Donald Davis of Greenwood; daughters, Beverly Vanvoust of Clinton, and Linda Gail Joiner of Raleigh, NC; step sons, Stevie Campbell of Honea Path, and Scottie Campbell of Anderson; step daughters, Becky Foster of Honea Path, and Peggy Price of Bradley; sister, Clara Riley of Saluda; grandchildren, Mariza Brewington, and Hunter May, both of the home, along with 9 other grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild on the way, Maggie Sue.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Weathers, Irma Fox, and Vera Turner; and brothers, Broadus Davis and Leonard Davis.
A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Nix officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
