Obituary

Vera Gladys Riddle Brooks, 94, of 202 Lakeview Drive, Greenwood, widow of Arthur Henry Brooks, died Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy Lee Riddle and Vera Metts Riddle. She graduated from Bush River High School, where she was valedictorian of her class. Gladys retired from Greenwood Mills-Mathews Plant and was a member of New Market Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, sang in the choir and taught children's Sunday School for many years, first at Callie Self, then at New Market.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann Barnes (Jerry) of Greenwood and Cheryl Califf (Lowell) of Pelzer; her sister, Sue Brown of Piedmont; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by all of her brothers and a great great grandson, Teagan Rains.

Services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday at New Market Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Califf, Brian Barnes, Adam Ridlehoover, Austin Sargent, Grayson Bowen and Mark Uldrick.

Honorary escort will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of New Market Baptist Church along with Barbara Sprouse.

The family will receive friends before the service at the church from 2-3pm.

The family is at the home of Ann and Jerry Barnes, 120 Ronnie Drive, Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Market Baptist Church, 906 Ninety Six Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646.
