Grant Blair, a dedicated environmentalist, passionate reader, and beloved family man, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and commitment to sustainability.
Graduating from North Carolina State University with a BS in Textile Chemistry and later earning a Master's in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Grant worked for Monsanto for 36 years. He was known for his advocacy for Lake Greenwood, his intellectual curiosity, and his deep bonds with his family. Grant's life was marked by his contributions to environmental stewardship, his voracious appetite for novels, and the joy he found in shared adventures with his son, Branson.
He is survived by his son, Branson, daughter-in-law Maja; grandsons, Jack T. and Ronin D. Blair and his sister, Jo Anne Blair Burt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Kemp Blair; his parents, Joseph Branson and Lona Belle Grant Blair; his brother, Charles Edward Blair and a special friend, Betty Fuller.
Known for his deep commitment to sustainability and his love for literature, Grant inspired many through his intellectual pursuits and his dedication to preserving natural beauty. His life was a testament to the profound impact that one individual can have on both their local and global community.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel.
