Gwendolyn Laramore Counts, 84, of 302 Glenwood Street, widow of James H. "Jimmy " Counts, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Hospice House. Born in Coral Gables, FL, on October 16, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Walker and Olga Simmons Laramore. Gwen was by nature a caregiver to her family, friends and church members, as well as all of Gods small creatures. She was a loving, caring person and always ready and willing to help others with one of her special dishes, a ride, a lending ear or her sweet, welcoming smile. She still insisted on cooking Sunday family dinners after church as long as her health allowed and made sure that the birds and any stray animals didn't go hungry, as she kept food on her deck for them to enjoy. Her love of her family and friends will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. After graduating from Mountville High School, Gwen received her B.S. degree from Lander College and taught fourth grade at Merrywood Elementary School. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served in many various positions, including Altar Guild Coordinator and member of the JOY Group and the Margaret Kinard Circle. She was a former member of the Chrysanthemum Garden Club and the Palladian Study Club.
