Obituary

Haskell L. "Hank" Hartfield, 82, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Hospice House.

Hank was a son of the late George and Cleo Matthews Hartfield. He was a 1961 graduate of Pamplico High School, where he developed friendships with classmates that lasted throughout his life. Hank developed a strong work ethic from working with his family on their tobacco and cotton farms. Following graduation from high school, he went from farming to appliance sales, first as a sales manager for many years at Scotty's in Florida and then after moving to Greenwood in 1980, he was a sales manager at Lowe's. In 1986, Hank started his own business, Hartfield's Car Rentals and Sales, which he operated until his illness in 2024.

Hank loved traveling and took his two much loved sons, Jason and Jon Erik, on many road trips around the country. In 2004, he decided it was time for a life partner and through the wonders of the internet, connected with Suzanne Doucette of New Hampshire. Their twenty-year loving relationship continued, as did their mutual love of traveling from Montreal, New Hampshire, the Grand Canyon, Florida, New Orleans and anywhere else they could get to. Every trip, whether business or pleasure, produced memories and another chapter in their Book of Life.

In spite of all of his life achievements, Hank always felt that his 47 years, 1 month and 12 days of sobriety was his most important accomplishment.

Hank is survived by his sons, Jason Hartfield and Jon Erik Hartfield; his long-time partner, Suzanne Doucette; sister-in-law, Melva Hartfield and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Hartfield and Olith Hartfield; and his ex-wife, Antoinette Maria Hartfield.
