Obituary

Harris Preston Upton, Sr., of Greenwood, beloved husband of Adair Timms Upton, passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2026.

Born on August 5, 1939, in Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Thomas G. Upton and Lois Parnell Upton. Preston had a long and successful career, working for 34 years at the Greenwood Mills Mathews Plant. During his time there, he earned the distinction of being a member of the Quarter Century Club, a testament to his commitment and perseverance. Afterward, he retired from Schneider Trucking, closing a chapter of steady and loyal service. Beyond his professional life, Preston was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, where he shared his faith and fellowship with many. He loved maintaining his yard, cutting the grass, and making sure his outdoor space was always beautiful. Above all, he cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Surviving in addition to his wife of over 66 years are his son, Harris "PJ" Preston Upton, Jr.; two grandchildren, Nina Upton and Garrett Upton; and four great grandchildren, Gideon, Cora, Lennox, and Billie.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Thomas Upton; sisters, Lois Dianne Upton and Deborah Meece; and a brother, Gary T. Upton.

A private graveside service will be held.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
