Hazel Newton Long, 92, of 205 Saluda Street, Ninety Six, widow of James Raymond Long, Sr., died Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at HospiceCare of the Piedmont.
Born in Polk County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Belton "Doc" and Carrie Moseley Newton. She retired from Greenwood Mills, Adams Plant after 45 years of service, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church where she was a member of The Sunbeams, W.M.U., T.E.L. Sunday School Class and taught Sunday School for many years.
Surviving are a son, Terry Long (Maxine) of Leoma, TN; daughter-in-law, Judy V. Long of Hodges; grandchildren, Angela Russell (Mike) of Chesnee and Jacqui Boettcher (Joe) of Hendersonville, TN; great grandchildren, Austin Rich and Rebecca Rich, both of Lyman, and Elsa Yvonne Boettcher of Hendersonville, TN; sisters, Wilma Byrd of Laurel, MS, Betty Horton of Boiling Springs, and Pat Watson of Spartanburg; sister-in-law, Amelia Newton of Spartanburg; adopted "son", Roger Fain of Ninety Six; and a host of friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by a son, James R. Long, Jr.; sisters, Nettie Shehan, Thelma Gregg and Omar Edmonds; and brothers, Bobby Newton, Grady Newton and Harold Newton.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryan Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
