Helen Golding Blalock, 93, widow of Charles Zola Blalock, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Carolina Gardens in Laurens.
Born on January 5, 1925 in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Furman Ira Golding, Sr. and Ellen Pace Golding. Helen grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Laurens County Schools in 1942. She retired from Eastwell Sportswear and Colson Manufacturing after 42 years and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. Helen was a sweet southern lady, kindhearted last of the bread bags and tinfoil savers. She loved the color blue, peppermint candy, little children and animals but first was always the Lord. For the last couple of years all she wanted was to go live with the good Lord or to catch a ride to Waterloo.
Helen was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Golding, William H. "Bill" Golding and Furman Ira Golding, Jr. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are nieces, Kathy G. Gibbs (Davis) of Laurens, Brigitte Knowlton (Timmy) of Greenwood, Gail Bell (Jimmy) of Greenwood, Jackie Owens (Steve) of Hodges and Glenda Gary (Danny) of Beaufort.
Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Sunday at Waterloo Cemetery with the Rev. John Elmore officiating.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Carolina Gardens- Pruitt Health Staff for their love and care shown to Mrs. Helen.
