Obituary

Helen Evans, 89, of Hodges, SC, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026 at her home. a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of our community.

Born on February 10, 1937, in Cullman, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Harbin Farris and Flora Ellison.

A devoted member of Northside Baptist Church, Helen actively participated in the senior adult bible study and volunteered with the Care Ministry, providing comfort and support to those in need within her community and congregation. Her commitment to her faith was evident, as she lived her life grounded in the principles of love, service, and fellowship. Helen was very proud to be a retiree from Tyco after over 40 years of service.

Helen was a woman of unwavering strength, whose compassion and kindness left a mark on all who knew her. Held dear by her family, her love for her children was endless, and she embraced her role as a grandmother with the same nurturing spirit that defined her life.

Helen's love for reading was a cherished escape; she possessed every book written by Nicholas Sparks and frequently enjoyed the culinary creations found within the pages of Paula Dean's cookbooks. Her passion for reading was only surpassed by her enthusiasm for life, which included her admiration for the talented Chase Elliott in the world of NASCAR, and her eternal love for the music of Elvis Presley.

She was preceded in death by a son, Chuck Scott, and a daughter, Barbara Elaine LaFountain and a half-brother, James Farris.

Surviving are her daughters; Lillie Owings and Robin Bell, half-sister; Mary Ellen Bellasprito, half-brothers; Ronald Farris, and Donald Farris, grandchildren; David Bell, Anna Bell, Arden Plumley (Levi), Bridget Owings, Jo Kerri Owings, Josh Scott, Shanda Scott, Arica Scott, and Jennifer Wright along with eighteen great-grandchildren, and dear friend Gaynell Wade.

A funeral service will be 5:00 PM on August, 18th, 2026 at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating.

The family will receive friends before the service from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM

She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to shine through the love she instilled in her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
