Obituary

Helen Smith Jernigan, 84, resident of Emerald Gardens, widow of Silas Jernigan, died Monday, August 14, 2017 at Hospice House.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Walter Louis and Lizzie Jane Weeks Smith. She was retired from Monsanto and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Golden Girls Sunday School Class and the Sunshine Basket Ministry.

Surviving are her children, David Smith (Joyce) of Rayle, GA, Jane Dorn (James) of Troy, Yancy Jernigan (Vickie), Joann Owens, Debbie Crawford (Tommy), Kathy Young (Donnie), all of Greenwood, Paul Jernigan and Amy Lecroy, both of Cross Hill; a sister, Lunette Gibson of Ware Shoals; a brother, Walter Smith of Greenwood; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two children, Tracy Anthony and John Silas Jernigan; four sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Hill officiating. Entombment following at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Michael Cowart, Tommy Jernigan, Dale Davenport, Joey Dorn, Travis Taylor and Christopher Davenport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
