Helen Wilke Lewis, 71, of Greenwood, wife of Ronnie Lewis, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at her home.
She was born on August 5, 1954, in Lake Worth, Florida, the beloved daughter of the late Rolf Wilke and Anita Wilke. Her parents, who had immigrated from Germany, instilled in her a strong sense of family, resilience, and heritage that shaped her life and the love she shared with others.
Helen devoted 46 years of her professional life to Lander University, where she worked diligently in the registrar's office. With a bachelor’s degree from the same institution, she not only served her alma mater but also became an fundamental part of its community, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues along the way.
Family was the cornerstone of Helen’s life. She cherished spending time with her loved ones and was particularly proud of her children and grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit extended to her home, where she found joy in gardening and a deep appreciation for flowers. Helen delighted in the beauty of the beach and found peace within the pages of a good book.
She was a member of Greenwood First Assembly, where she found a community that mirrored her values and enriched her life with fellowship and faith.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie; her daughter, Jennifer Detreville (Thomas Hariston); her son, Gregory Lewis (Tricia); her sister, Helga Maddox; her four grandchildren: William Detreville, Mary Brannen Detreville (Aaron), Emma Grace Lewis, and Landon Thomas Lewis; and her beloved cat, Misty, who provided companionship throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jerry Rentz officiating.
The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
