Obituary

Helen J Wilson, 92, of Greenwood, widow of Ed Wilson, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at her home.

Born in Elloree, she was a daughter of the late Leo Perkins Sr. and Freda Perkins. She lived a life marked by devotion to her family, faithful service, and generous kindness shown in both large and small ways.

For 28 years, Helen served as a church secretary in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Her years of work reflected a steady commitment to her church community and to the people she served there. She was also known for the care she expressed through her hands. Helen loved to crochet, and her crocheted scarves and baby blankets became lasting expressions of her affection. She gave blankets to every baby in the family and to many others beyond the family as well, sharing warmth and love in a way that will be remembered for years to come.

Above all, Helen will be remembered as a beloved wife and family matriarch. She is survived by her children, Joan Bourne (Gregg), Ernie Wilson (Pam), and Rick Wilson (Patsy);  her grandchildren, Jennifer Clary (Joe), Shanna Bourne, Clayton Wilson (Toni), Tabitha Penland (Mark), Damian Sumerel (Lib), Andrew Adcock, and Cole Adcock (Aika); fourteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom carries forward memories of her love, generosity, and steady presence.

In addition to her husband, Ed and parents, Leo and Freda, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Leo Perkins, Rose Glecton, and Bobby Perkins. Their memory remained part of the story of her life, and she now rests with those who went before her.

The family would like to give a special thank you Sherry Livingston and Agape Hospice for their love and care.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Emerald Baptist Church with Rev. Craig  McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emerald Baptist Church, 110 Laurel Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29649 (www.emeraldbaptistchurch.com).
