Herbert Kenneth Meador, 84, of 202 Orchard Drive, widower of Betty Boyd Meador, died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Self Regional Healthcare.
Born in True, WV, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel Upton Meador. During his 20 years of service in the US Army, he was awarded; Good Conduct (6th Award), Occupation Medal of Germany and Okinawa, the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He retired with rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. Meador also retired from Monsanto and Food Lion having worked both for 17 years. He was a life member of DAV and attended Fellowship Baptist Church.
He was the last surviving member of his immediately family.
Surviving are his children; Libby Meador (Phil) of the home, Debbie Smith (Chris) of Hodges, Darlene Horne (David) of West Columbia, and Danny Meador (Theresa) of Belton; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Shook officiating. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Hill and the staff of Family Physicians of Greenwood for their care of Mr. Meador.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
