Hilton Lafayette Dodgen, Sr., 93, of 2720 Highway 25 South, husband of Evelyn Smith Dodgen died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Morningside Assisted Living.

Born in Saluda County, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Bessie Sue Rearden Dodgen. He was the owner and operator of Hi-Do service station on Augusta Road and later owned and operated Augusta Road Auto Sales & Service and Hilton Dodgen Auction and Realty.

Hilton was US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, where he served with the 450th Bomb Group and 23rd Bomb Squadron in Manduria, Italy and was a P.O.W. He was inducted into Greenwood County Veteran's Hall of Fame, was a member of the Mathews Lions Club and in 2016, he was inducted into the South Carolina Lion's Club Hall of Fame. Hilton was a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife; four children, Randy Dodgen (Judy), Karen Price, Hilty Dodgen (Kathy), and Daryl Dodgen, all of Greenwood; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie Bowie and Fealie Mae Medlock and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Ann Eakin Dodgen.

Services, with military rites, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Randy Ouzts and Rev. Bryant Sims officiating.

Honorary escort will be members of the Mathews Lion Club.

The family will receive friends following the service at the Family Center at Oakbrook.

The family members are at their respective homes.
