Hiram Fellers Mitchell, 96, of Emerald Gardens, husband of Grace Shidle Mitchell passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Athens, GA, he was a son of the late Henry and Alma Walton Mitchell. Hiram was a WWII Army veteran and a lifetime member of the 96 American Legion Post 103, Masonic Lodge 47, where he was awarded the oldest living member. He retired after working for over 40 years as a loom fixer with Greenwood Mills-Adams Plant where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was also a master gardener. Hiram was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church where he was in the Men's Bible Class.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elaine Mitchell and his siblings: Kenneth Mitchell, Eloise Bryans, Bill Mitchell, Edna Werts and Edward Mitchell.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his son, Danny Mitchell (Judy) of Greenwood; grandchildren, Travis Mitchell (Sarah) of Ninety Six, Ashlee Nemes (Matthew) of Bluffton and Holly Madden (Samuel) of Greenwood; and great grandchildren, Braden Mitchell, Bentley Mitchell and Owen Nemes.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Kelvin Hinson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
Honorary escorts will be the members of the Men's Bible Class.
The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
