Obituary

Horace James Lawton, 85, of 404 Lodge Drive, widower of Daisy Cobb Lawton, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at his home. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Ernest James and Lynora Johnson Lawton. He retired as the Director of Maintenance for the Greenwood Methodist Home (now Wesley Commons), was a Mason and a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Lawton served in the US Navy and the US Army Air Corps during World War II, following in the footsteps of previous generations who served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the War Between the States, World War I and World War II and the generations following who have served in Vietnam, Korea and Iraq. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Lawton of the home and Linda Morgan and her husband, Dave, of Savannah, GA; a son, David Lawton of the home; three sisters, Gladys Howard of Spartanburg, Marie (Don) Bobo of Easley and Evelyn (Jack) Jones of Abbeville; two brothers, Larry (Dona) Lawton of Panama City, FL and Vernon Lawton of Augusta, GA; two grandchildren, Jonathan Morgan and Pamela Pena, both of Savannah; a great granddaughter, Angelina Pena; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a brother, Eddie Lawton and sister-in-law, Marion Davis Lawton.
