John Belton "J. B. " Buchanan, Sr., 94 of 223 Marshall Circle, husband of Nellie Dove Buchanan, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Hospice House. Born in Parksville, SC, he was a son of the late Richard and Alice Adams Buchanan. He retired from Greenwood Mills and was a US Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Buchanan was a very active charter member of New Market Baptist Church, where he served in numerous capacities over the years. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home; is a son, John Belton (Gussie) Buchanan, Jr. of Prosperity; a granddaughter, Kim (Dennis) Kelly, who was raised in the home, two sisters, Lucy Simpson of Greenwood and Mary Simms of Warner Robins, GA; a brother, Luther Buchanan of Greenwood; grandchildren, Jackie (Tony) Ginn and John Buchanan, III, all of Greenwood; four great grandchildren, Ben (Teresa) Kelly, Heather Fields, Christopher Fields, all of Greenwood and Chad (Christy) Pruitt of Simpsonville; step grandchildren, Diane (Tommy) Zobel of Newberry, Earl (Cindy) Longshore of Mt. Pleasant and Bob (Charlotte) Longshore of Prosperity; and five great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Whitworth, Ellorie McDaniel and Pauline Swansey and four brothers, William Jasper �Buck� Buchanan, Bob Buchanan, Dallas Buchanan and Richard �Coot� Buchanan.
