Obituary

J. C. Porter, 93, of 228 Jackson Avenue, husband of Dorothy Beasley Porter, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at his home. Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Edward Oscar Porter and Ollie Elizabeth Porter. J. C. was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Moose Lodge. He retired from Greenwood Mills and enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting. J. C. was a member of West Side Baptist Church where he was in the Adult 1 Men 2 Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace Porter, Billy Porter and George Porter. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are three daughters, Millicent Porter Jenkins, Carol Joyce Gilbert (Eddie) and Debra Shaw (George); a son, Allie Ray Zimbilies Porter; a step-daughter, Patricia Edwards McBride; a step-son, Carlton Barry Edwards; two sisters, Anna Laura Griggs and Joette Juhl; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Eddie Gilbert, Jeff Pearson, Bruce Culbertson, David Lawter, Hunter DeLoach and Dylan DeLoach. Memorials may be made to West Side Baptist Church, 215 Bypass 225 South, Greenwood, SC 29646 The family is at the home.
