Marvin Jackson “Jack” Burton, 91, of Greenwood, husband of Mary Patricia Mulkey Burton, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026, at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.

Born on January 19, 1935, in Calhoun Falls, SC, he was a son of the late Willie G. Burton and Amy Jackson Burton. The fifth of six children, Jack grew up in his beloved hometown of Calhoun Falls. Though times were hard, he cherished his childhood memories and loved telling stories of the days long before Lake Russell was built, taking his family on rides through the Blue Hole Recreational Area to share what life was once like. He was an avid athlete in high school, playing baseball, football, and basketball, his favorite sport, and served as captain of the Calhoun Falls Blue Flashes.

After graduating high school in 1953, Jack worked briefly in the cotton mill before joining the United States Air Force. Around the same time, he met the love of his life, Pat. The two were married shortly before Jack left for basic training and a two-year tour in Japan. He proudly served his country for twenty years as an F-4 fighter jet mechanic and instructor, including a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam War.

As a devoted military family, Jack and Pat raised three children while being stationed in Germany, Okinawa, and four U.S. states. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Jack returned home to South Carolina and settled with his family in Greenwood. He earned a degree in electronics from Piedmont Technical College and went on to work for Kemet Electronics for several years.

Jack leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service, deep roots, and abiding love for his family.

Surviving are his children, Rayne Adams (“Goober”) and Jimmy Burton (Caroline); daughter in law, Jan Burton; and granddaughter, Abby Adams.

In addition to his parents and wife, Pat, he was preceded in death by a son, Jack Burton; two sisters, Beatrice Shiflet and Betty Ann Richey; and three brothers, Ralph Burton, David Burton, and Pastor Billy Burton.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Abney Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin Arender officiating. 

Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church.
