James Ernest Devore, 83, of 110 Rock House Road, husband of Ruby Smith Devore, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late James Leonard Devore and Estelle Bell Devore. From a young age he was always tinkering with things to see how it worked, which lead him to a career with Canteen, repairing vending machines. James was a wonderful father and grandpa, always spoiling his daughter and grandchildren. Every grandchild was rocked to sleep in "Papa's chair". Papa was the fixer of all things, from CB radios to TVs. He enjoyed building CB radios and talking to the truck drivers. James attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Annette Gillion (John); sister, Barbara Ann Batton; grandchildren, John Gillion "Little John", James Carter Gillion, and Christian Cole Gillion; niece, Beverly Green; and nephew, James "Jim" Batton.

Services for Jimmy and his wife, Ruby, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
